Green Chemistry

The green chemistry is a great idea. This is the first time I heard about it which makes me wonder why the government doesn’t promote it or enforce it. I think more companies and manufacturers should practice green chemistry when creating their products. Green chemistry reduces the use of hazardous substances which can prevent pollution and harming our environment and our health. The 12 principles of green chemistry can save our planet from hazardous chemicals. I think the main goal of the principles is to keep the hazardous chemicals out of the environment in the first place. It keeps hazardous chemicals out of the environment by pushing for safer chemicals and products. I also like that one of the principles talked about designing chemicals and products that can degrade after use so it will not accumulate in the environment. After watching the video about the Great Pacific garbage patch, I saw how different products like plastics can wash out in the beach and accumulate. Garbage like plastic bottles are indestructible and never goes away. The garbage that wash out in the ocean are not only harming the marine life but also our health and life. Therefore, I think the government should support and enforce green chemistry.

  2. Hi Krissy,
It was also the first time that I heard about what green chemistry was! I agree that more companies should follow suit and start moving towards green chemistry to create healthier products. The government does need to get involved and begin enforcing green chemistry principles to create a more sustainable future.
