Climate Change

1.    What do you personally find most troubling about climate change?
Everything about climate change troubles me! There are numerous serious consequences in the future if we continue contributing to the greenhouse gas emissions. After watching the video “Climate Change Explained,” I felt so overwhelm with all the negative consequences that can happen with climate change. With climate change, the storms will be more intense and drought periods will be longer. Climate change can also cause massive extinction of most species on Earth. It can also affect agriculture which can result to hunger. Recently, we saw major destruction that was cause by hurricanes in Florida and Puerto Rico. I’m really worried for the future generations if climate change continues.
2.    As a public health professional, what do you think needs the greatest attention right now?
As public health professional, I think we need to get more politician to support policies that will address climate change. I don’t understand why some libertarians and other conservatives are opposed to policies that will fight climate change. They need to be educated about climate change. Everyone need to speak up and express concerns about negative consequences of climate change. We need to push for more national policies that will fight climate change.
3.    If you were visiting with a long-lost relative who had never heard about climate change, how would you describe it and its attendant human health and ecological threats?
Climate change is the warming of the Earth’s temperature. This is cause by human activities, like burning of fossil fuels, that are contributing to the increase of greenhouse gases. The increase of the greenhouse gases is changing the natural greenhouse of Earth which can cause some negative consequences. The ecological threats are warmer weather, intense storms, longer periods of drought, and melt the polar ice caps. In result of natural disasters, there's a chance that people may lose their home and job. They might need to move to another place. The agricultural industry may also get affected. In addition, climate change can also cause widespread of extinction of most species on Earth. Climate change can also affect human health. Extreme warm weather can cause heatstroke. The changes of weather in other places can give way to organisms that can cause viruses or bacteria. In result, a disease outbreak is possible from happening. These serious health effects and ecological threats should push for people to work together towards taking care of the environment and creating for national policies to fight climate change.
