I live in a busy downtown of San Francisco. Most of the time, I used public
transportation because it’s more convenient. My morning exercise is walking to
the muni station to catch my train going to my work. I think the availability
of public transportation in San Francisco helps increase people’s physical
activity and reduce motor vehicle accidents. I like it when the government
encourages people to use public transportation. For example, the commuters get
free rides on Spare the Air day. Furthermore, the government are really trying
to improve the public transportation services. In 2014, the San Francisco
Municipal Transportation Agency painted the transit lanes in red with the
support of the federal government. I think this is great because the buses and
taxis have their own lane. I think it improved the service speeds of buses and
reduced traffic collisions.
In the downside, sometimes the traffic can be bad especially during rush hour. The streets of San Francisco are full of private owned cars, taxis, buses, cable cars, double decker tour buses, Uber, and Lyft cars. The emissions coming from these vehicles are polluting the air. I also think that there are too many Uber and Lyft cars that are causing additional traffic, vehicle collisions, and air pollution. I think the government need to enforce rules and regulations with this ride hailing companies. In addition, I think there are an increase number of bus robberies in San Francisco. The government need to prioritize the safety of commuters. San Francisco need to have better transportation policies that will protect the public’s health and safety.

ReplyDeleteYou make a really good point about the increase in pollution and vehicle collisions due to Uber and Lyft drivers. I often see these drivers sitting in their car with their hazard lights on weighting for their passengers in the middle of a busy intersection. It is great that San Francisco is making an effort to decongest the roads by providing taxis and buses their own lane. With the increase in people living in San Francisco city it is important to continue to find innovative ways to cut down on pollution and traffic to prevent collisions and further harmful effects on our environment.

ReplyDeletei'm so glad to learn that public transportation in San Francisco is really convenient and encourages more people to use it on the daily basis to commute to work and schools. Unlike San Francisco, public transportation is not so popular in San Jose where i live so there's a lot more people driving to commute to work including me. I'm sorry to hear that there's a safety concern for people who use public buses but i can relate because this is another reason why we don't ride the buses a lot in San Jose. I think in order to encourage more people to use public transportation, the government needs to ensure the safety for the riders first of all.
