Ideas of an ideal chemical/fragrance
policy
Before drafting a policy, I will research about toxic chemicals and learn
about the potential health hazards of each one. Then, I will research about
common personal care products that contain toxic chemicals like fragrance. I
will conduct an assessment by giving out survey in schools, workplaces, and in
other institutional settings. It is important to know their knowledge about toxic
chemicals and its health hazards. It is also important to collect opinions and
suggestions from people in these institutional settings. This will help me
develop an appropriate fragrance-free policy for each setting.
For people to follow the policy, I think it is crucial for them to understand
the importance of the fragrance-free policy and know the possible consequences
if they don’t follow the policy, especially in a hospital setting. Hospital
employees need to understand that some people can experience adverse health
effects from products that has fragrance. The visitors should also learn about
the policy and follow it. I think educational handouts, posters, and signs will
be helpful for both employees and visitors. For a successful implementation of
the fragrance-free policy, I think it is important for the management in institutional
settings to meet with their employees, educate them, and do a follow-up
assessment about the policy. In addition, I think it is a great idea to create
a list of alternative personal care products that are fragrance-free or
unscented and hand it out to employees and visitors. I think this list will
help people in institutional settings and visitors to stop using their products
that contain toxic chemicals. In addition, an ideal fragrance policy should
always be reviewed and improved every year if needed.
Hi Krissy,
ReplyDeletei think creating a list of alternative personal care products that are fragrance-free is a good idea and can be useful for better enforcement of the policy. People might be more encouraged to uphold the policy because they can now easily find fragrance-free products to replace their scented ones. Also, i think follow-up assessment and feedback from the employees is a good idea to see how well the policy is working for the purposes it was intended to.
Hi Krissy,
ReplyDeleteResearching each chemical is a good approach in order to create a thorough assessment and create proper guidelines for people to follow. I like that you suggested creating educational materials to serve as reminders for visitors as well as staff and students.
Hi Krissy,
ReplyDeleteI like your approach to developing a fragrance free policy. It is very smart to research commonly used products and inform the public about the effects of the chemicals. It is also important to get community feedback through surveys. Overall I really enjoyed reading your strategy.
